Why is Apple so behind? Let's talk Apple. That's the news of the week, right? Liquid glass. Liquid glass. You called it. Yeah. You called it seconds before it happened. Have you seen the liquid ass though? No. So, okay. So, Apple introduced this liquid glass thing and they put it on YouTube as well. And the thumbnail says liquid glass, but the GL in glass is exactly where the YouTube uh play button, the icon is. So you read it liquid ass and it's like such a perfect obstruction of like the GL. That's why people are calling it liquid ass. People pick up on it and it's now a part of the meme history. more on trend is they didn't really mention anything to do with AI. I don't know what to make of it because I I've said this like three times this week. Apple have always been great at abstracting the technology behind what's going on and last year they were kind of forced by uh shareholders to like say something about AI because they've had AI for ages. It's like how they process your photos is AI. I think the only clear thing they mentioned that was AI was actually releasing their foundation model to developers which is really cool actually. I really like that. I don't think it's going to be the best model. I'm more excited about the developers and what the developers are going to do with this access to a local model on your device as well as private compute. AI apps are going to probably explode and and they won't cost a fortune because they're not having to use other models. I have mixed feelings about this. What do you want to use? uh a model that is excellent getting you what you are trying to say and giving you the right answer but it takes a few seconds maximum because nowadays they are also really fast uh versus another one that is on device but it's kind of dumb. Why would you use those uh opposed to something much you know powerful? And that goes back to a very important point. Why is Apple so behind? Uh, I've seen a few people talking about this. It's probably because of uh Craig Fedriggy and a lot of other people at Apple not really believing in AI. Did you read their paper? I didn't read the paper but I uh read about it and I watched a few videos about it and it's very interesting especially the timing. So the title is the illusion of thinking and this paper essentially says that these models are not really thinking models and uh with the increase of complexity the answers that they give basically falls down and falls apart like they can't get complexity really well. it it does demonstrate a little bit of a you know a reservation when it comes to AI but uh in answer to your question about like would you use AI locally blah blah blah I think it's always about knowing the limitations of the model itself yeah if I needed more then of course I wouldn't go for if if testing was like this model was just taking too long to do what I need of course I wouldn't use it you know I wouldn't I wouldn't succumb the user to any kind of UX torment just because I wanted to use a local model. So, have you seen Silicon Valley the show? Uh, I was recommended it. I didn't really get it. Yeah. Go on. There is a big company in it that people for example today they they say it's like Apple. they introduce a new uh technology and then the engineers they first know about this technology that they are introducing in the keynote and apparently there are some things regarding what happened in WWDC last year that were exactly like that. Apparently, what they showed with Siri and booking a flight, I believe it was never worked even on any test device. And the things that they introduced last year, they still don't work today. Uh, and apparently the engineers didn't know about these things. They were like, "Oh, cool. So, we are going to build these things in the next few months." Oh, so that's what that's the next year of my life. That's what I'm gonna be producing. Is it other things? They announced they've introduced like their own Docker which is kind of random and Docker is a virtual machine environment thing. Uh they introduced vibe coding into Xcode which is really cool. And that's kind of it. The disappointing thing here for me is and I won't labor on about this is just how they're sucking you into their ecosystem. Like they've they've done nothing to support developers who aren't part of their who aren't building apps. They're not helping web developers. They're not they're not supporting anyone that isn't making their money, which is pretty sad to see. I was disappointed by WWDC. Like I wanted them to come forward with the AI stuff if at least that they show some sort of like partnership with with other AI. Here's a question. Why don't they just straight out buy Anthropic? It kind of fits their philosophy, you know, like very they are very Appleike. They are not the first to the market. They try to go for the quality for safety. They could buy them like 10 times. This is part of a larger conversation on my show, Command AI, which we stream live every single week. We discuss the news and all things related to AI in the world of design and web.
