Someone Rebuilt the Entire Adobe Suite in Rust and Open Sourced It
Somebody has made open-source clones of the entire Adobe suite, free to download. Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere and even After Effects. They open your PSD and After Effects files too. Sam and Kabarza look at whether there's any reason left to pay for Adobe, where the AI features went, and whether AI agents can now reverse-engineer any app in existence.

Adobe is dead. Somebody made all Adobe apps available for free, at least a clone of them. And for for real this time. And I Command AI Sorry, man. I installed like Photocraft, and I will show you in a second. But as you see, this tool is a collection of all Adobe tools. Photoshop, uh this is Adobe Illustrator. Uh what is Filmcraft? This is Adobe Premier. We have Light, we have the PDF Craft. Why would [laughter] Why would you have to You You don't have to pay for a PDF editor anymore. And maybe most importantly and impressively, After Effects. I did not see this one coming. There is a clone of After Effects for you to install for free. Every Well, it's important to note as well, these are open source. So, you can download the code and make changes to the platform. It's It's open source. It's crazy. I stopped paying for Adobe maybe six months ago. And I was only using Photoshop for thumbnails, and I just couldn't get away from Photoshop because Photoshop is just my brain is working in the way Photoshop works. Every shortcut works the same way. You have like The only thing that I couldn't find is like um AI stuff. Like content-aware fill. I wanted to change it so that it would use uh local AI to do the AI stuff, but just couldn't find it. So, unless you can correct me, cuz by the way, Craft, or whatever they're called, um Art Craft, their bread and butter is actually like Higgs field. It's a It's a platform for doing various AI-based uh like creative stuff, you know? So, I thought [snorts] the AI would be core to these experiences, to be honest. But I couldn't find it. That's all I would say. I like Cuz I looked at the pricing, and it's all about AI. It's the credits that you get for their like image and video generation tools. And I think this is just the natural next step that they will introduce this to the apps so you can use their AI through their subscription in the Adobe similar tools. Is there anyone paying for Adobe right now? Like let us know in the comments. Why why [laughter] are you paying for Adobe? I think after this there is literally no other arguments why would you pay for Adobe? I think a lot of people use Adobe because they are almost fearful because the rest of the industry is using it. So they're all just like, you know, I don't trust that this is going to be as good or my plugins and this and that. It's I want someone to open up After Effects project in here. That's a really good they support the the file system from Adobe products. So your Adobe Photoshop PSD file you can just drop it in this photo app. Same for After Effects. That's kind of like the insane thing that it plugs to your workflow. And you're not losing anything. Just download the apps and give it a try. It is open source so you can change whatever you need. Maybe the plugin that you are that you used so often, maybe you can even program that in in a way. Kind of like adding it being a part of the the app itself. Maybe integrated even better. So depending on what you need. That's the beauty of open source especially in this age of AI. Seems like these ginormous code bases that no human being not a single person could ever understand now can be delegated to literally thousands of AI agents to understand them and start porting And I suspect the same thing has happened to this like craft app. They have they didn't go and like make for the next Photoshop from scratch. They almost certainly has reversed engineered the entire code base of Photoshop even though it seems like every software that exists is going to be reverse-engineered and put out as open source. Because if the code exists in some form, it can be reverse-engineered now. This is part of a larger conversation on my show Command AI, which we stream live every single week. We discuss the news and all things related to AI in the world of design and web. Catch us next week and join in the banter. Command AI
