Just a shout out, this video is so well done. Just 19 minutes of pure gold. They are talking about this new liquid glass, but they are talking about the philosophy of it. You might like the effect or you might not like the effect. That's beside the point. What is important that how they are thinking about this liquid glass is a new digital meta material. The thinking that goes to it, the rationalization that goes to it, the inspiration where it comes from, the warping and bending of light communicates to us its presence, its motion and form. In physical world, you can have glass and you can have liquid. In digital, you can mix them and now you have liquid glass. So, I really like the way they explain and everything they explain. It's a really good watch and a lot of people in the web space including like us with my team have been trying to recreate these things on the web. It's more complex than you think. To give a very simple explanation, each one of these elements they kind of see what's beneath them. So they see the whole screen underneath and then they based on that they reflect light which is very comput uh intensive. So to make this work on all devices for the web and make it not very intensive is very difficult. I haven't seen anybody who has done this yet that would work everywhere in a like reasonable way and accessible as well because you could render the page on a canvas and then put a shader over the top but then you're losing all access to all the text because obviously this is designed for native app development. It's not designed for web. I was watching this and I was thinking it's amazing the amount of effort they've gone to to lay the foundations and support the design community in these principles. It reminded me of material design that Google did and there was a whole website and it told you why the how and stuff like that. This is the meaty stuff that designers really need to understand that something can look cool but it's if it's got principles behind it then you're going to have just a much better time using the the design pattern. Have you seen the toggle? Yes. Yes, I have. So, my favorite quote and like tweet on that is that toggle animation is probably taking more compute than the moon landing. Yeah, probably. That's right. Thing is, you've watched their principles. What principle are they justifying an an animation like that? It's natural. That's what they are saying. It's coming from the physical world. I don't like the toggle. I really like the idea of the slider because with that you can see where exactly the control is when you put your finger on it. You you see underneath the toggle does not make sense. But it looks cool. It looks cool. I think they've they've done very good at justifying something that is meant to just look cool. So yeah, um the backlash on it has been pretty bad though. Like some of the screenshots, you know, I said it in a tweet like this is a developer beta, not a public beta. Developer beta. They're trying to get people to use the tools. So, start introducing the APIs and start working with the APIs and then it's like the designers are coming in and be like, "Oh, it looks like crap." It's like, "Yeah, but the design's probably not done even done yet." Yeah. The market didn't really love it and the memes were, you know, amazing. There was one the entire market and the entire industry saying, "Give us AI, Apple, and Apple is liquid glasses the best we can." This is part of a larger conversation on my show, Command AI, which we stream live every single week. We discuss the news and all things related to AI in the world of design and web.
