Is Coding Over in the Age of AI? A Look at the New Path of Development

Coding is not dead, we checked. We riff on your comments about Mr doob and Three.js, chat vibe coding, and dig into why advancing libraries still matters. We reckon AI can spark ideas and speed up typing, but the deeper bits still need real understanding. We stream Command AI every week, so come along and bring the banter. In this episode, we review a viewer comment saying they “thought coding was dead.” From there, the discussion expands into how AI is changing development, why libraries still evolve, and where human thinking remains essential. ------------------------------------------------ 0:00 - Intro – Reading Viewer Comments 0:36 - Why Libraries Still Need Updates 1:43 - AI vs. Thinking Discussion in this weeks news in AI, web and design with @Kabarza⁩ and @0x5am5⁩ Unlock the full potential of your online presence with Kabarza and Samuel—experts in web design and development (respectively), powered by cutting-edge AI solutions. So this is the comments section where we take a look at what you have to say. Uh let us know what you think about anything you hear down in the comments and we might just read it out. A comment that is kind of like relevant to what we are exactly talking about is about the video that we made about Mr. Doo the creator of 3JS. He's using AI to prompt the new updates. And somebody is asking, I thought coding had died. Uh, this is the news anyway. Everything is AI and vibe coding now. So I think the question here is if everything is vibe coding, why do we have like 3JS being coded? That's at least how I see it. So we we do have we do have AI, but we still need to advance on our libraries. our libraries can can be more efficient and also they can add new features. They can do more stuff and then these AI agents can be can use these a AI created uh libraries. I mean by by somebody like Mr. Dubai wouldn't really necessarily saying AI created. He knows what he's doing but yeah uh for our advantage at the end of the day. So, it's kind of like building, we're building on top of what we already have. And people who know how to code, they can use AI to their advantage to to add high quality code written by AI, but still high quality code um and just add it on top and we'll see where we go with this. That's how I see it. Someone left a comment on one of my LinkedIn posts, which I don't entirely agree with, but I see where they're getting at. they said something quite nice and it was that AI is there to replace um typing. It's not there to replace thinking. Now I do think AI can think for you is it's thought about many features that I've I've not known how to implement. Right? So it's not impos it's not terrible at thinking. However, when someone's used AI, you can you can certainly assume the level of involvement they've um had on the on the product or how important it is. But the mo it starts to fade away as you get deeper and deeper into these these lower level systems. So like Mr. Doo probably can get away with very specific vibecoded aspects of the library, but I bet you know anything more deep detail than that directly uh well you can't I guess he's interacting directly with WebGL but like you know if he's writing shaders or or whatever that's what you start the the the AIness of that experience starts to fade away a little bit. And again it just it goes to the broadness of AI just being so broad. Don't people just say that oh people who use AI don't think. Don't assume that just because you can not think with AI. You can do very very specific very intricate things with with AI. Certainly with coding that um a lot of thinking is needed to make that one specific change. So, like, yeah, it's it's funny how people paint paint AI with a brush using their own experience and their own colors as opposed to um Does that make sense? I don't know if that's making sense. It does. It does make sense actually. This is part of a larger conversation on my show, Command AI, which we stream live every single week. We discuss the news and all things related to AI in the world of design and web. Catch us next week and join in the banter.
