GPT-5 Codex is here - and it's actually good for coding! ๐ป
OpenAI finally delivered a coding-specific model after regular GPT-5 missed the mark. It's faster, more reliable, and available in Cursor right now.
The pricing is annoying ($20 vs $200) but the dynamic thinking time from seconds to hours is exactly what we need. Plus we're fighting the agent file standardization war - why can't all tools use the same MD files?
This might finally get me to switch from Claude Code. Testing it now! ๐

So the meaning of OpenAI's codeex drifts further in into ambiguity by giving us developers exactly what we wanted which is GBT5 codeex. Now GBD5 obviously bursted onto the scene and it was very exciting but it didn't quite for me personally I used it very quickly rejected it. it didn't quite hit the mark in terms of its coding capabilities, but now they've released faster, more reliable, better at real-time collaboration, basically a GBT 5 that's specifically tuned for writing code, and it's available for every everyone who's paying for GBT, which is this. The pricing on GBT is is a bit annoying because you got 20 $20, which is okay for casual developers, or you've got $200 for pro developers. Well, I'm sitting happy in the middle with a $100 on clo clawed code anyway ran over and it can dynamically adjust its thinking time from seconds to several hours which is which is what we want sometimes. I don't know whether I could trust an AI to work for several hours on my behalf but whatever it's all good. So, and I did have a little look. It's in it's available in cursor too. So, you can just select it as your cursor. It adds to cursor kind of like a tab. It's No, no, no. I'm talking about Sorry. No, no. What you're talking about is using it in the CLI. I'm talking about actually in the little dropdown where you can select the model. It's available as a model in Okay, I see. I see. In the chat in the chat window. So, that's what I mean. I wanted to cancel my Claude code thing this last month and just trial codeex for a month and see how it's going because um I do like to keep on my toes about what's going on. I I don't like to um I don't like to just stick with one tool as you probably know. That's kind of what I've made a name for myself with just reading this now. I need this I need agents MD to be a norm. We'll get into a nice little update from GitHub later on which tackles this problem. But agents.md if we click on this as a link, we're getting off piece now. This is actually just like a a format, a a convention, let's call it, that I think all of these bloody tools should use. Um, I'm just So, there we go. There's codeex. I'm just looking for claw code, which it doesn't use. I'm looking for Oh, Gemini does basic. Okay. So, basically Claude anthropic, can you please adopt the agents MD file? Because otherwise, you've got your clawed MD file. You got agents.mmd file. Um, you've got the gemini.md file. You've got all these MD files like flying around and and people use people use different CLIs, different coding environments. It's just been nice to just use the one file. Um, I want to try and combat this by in my clawed MD file saying look in the agents MD file and just having that as the only thing in my claw MD file. Um, I might actually add that as a rule to say always check for agentd files. But anyway, so yeah. Um, where were we? Sorry, I just went a bit off piece there. No, that that that that's interesting. I didn't know about it, but it's essentially a a file to define uh your project, but for an agent, define your project, define rules, define instructions. It's effectively a prompt uh that sits that that runs with every every request. You can and then it takes up context and all the rest of it. you don't just want to pump everything into it, but it's nice just to be able to say this is what the project's about. This is some considerations to to to have and all the rest of it. So yeah, um quite nice. I haven't used it extensively yet. I've just set it in cursor as my model. So I'm going to use it through the, you know, the API thing. But I would like to I would like to dig into codeex because people were enjoying GPT5. I personally didn't get along with it. And that just goes to show that people just they just get on differently with different um AIs, you know. Um the way you like to word things, the way you like to phrase things just may or may not work with the model that you you're trying out, you know. So again, indeterministic. Yeah, this is part of a larger conversation on my show, Command AI, which we stream live every single week. We discuss the news and all things related to AI in the world of design and web. Catch us next week and join in the banter.
